Betway has joined together with South Africa's Premier Soccer League (PSL) to create National Responsible Gambling Month in an effort to combat problem gambling.
The announcement was made at a media meeting at the PSL offices in Johannesburg, attended by PSL Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza, Betway CEO South Africa Laurence Michel, and Executive Director of the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) Sibongile Simelane-Quntana.
Michel commented on the development, saying: "As proud title sponsors of the Betway Premiership, we continue to uphold our responsibilities as a major global sports betting brand by educating our clients and the South African public about responsible gambling.
"Through our collaboration with the PSL, Betway remains committed to promoting safe gaming across all of its platforms. We therefore reinforce our messaging of 'Bet Responsibly' to all football fans and our clients throughout November and beyond."
Sibongile Simelane-Quntana, Executive Director of the South African Responsible gaming Foundation, stated: "The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation's mandate is to emphasise the well-being of gamblers and their families through advocating and raising awareness about responsible gaming.
"Collaborating with Betway and the PSL during National Responsible Gambling Month is part of our effort to highlight not only the potential risks of problem gambling but also the availability of free support services - such as counselling and treatment - for those facing gambling addiction."
This revelation follows Betway's announcement of a number of sports collaborations this year, including being the official betting partner of Chelsea, Bologna FC, and Nottingham Forest.
